The Life and Legacy of Qifu Gangui: A Powerful Prince of Western Qin

Qifu Gangui, also known as Prince Wuyuan of Qin (秦武元王), was a significant figure in the history of Western Qin, a Chinese dynasty led by the Xianbei people. He was a prince of the dynasty and played a crucial role in shaping its power and influence.

Born into a noble family, Qifu Gangui was the brother of the founding prince, Qifu Guoren (Prince Xuanlie). After his brother's death in 388, he became prince due to the young age of his nephew, Qifu Gongfu. During his reign, Qifu Gangui faced several challenges, including defeats at the hands of rebel general Liu Bobo and the eventual weakening of Western Qin.

Despite these setbacks, Qifu Gangui managed to redeclare independence in 409 and briefly expanded the state's power before being killed in a coup by Qifu Gongfu. He was later succeeded by his son, who became a Later Qin general after their state was annexed by Later Qin.

Throughout his life, Qifu Gangui held various titles, including Grand Commander, Grand General, and Prince of Henan. His legacy as a prince of Western Qin has had a lasting impact on the history of China.
